Work Schedule and Shift Premiums

As a casual employee, hours vary per week based on the needs of the department. Hours typically range from 6:30am - 12:00pm on Saturdays, where the Saturday premium is an additional $2.00/hour.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution
• Graduate of an accredited phlebotomy program preferred but not required
• ASCP certification desirable
• Previous phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting preferred but not required
• BLS certification (available through Hillsdale Hospital)

Responsibilities

• Uses appropriate techniques and procedures to obtain blood samples by venipuncture and skin puncture
• Instructs patients on proper collection procedures for urine collection, stool collection, and other miscellaneous collections
• Correctly labels all specimens and checks for quality
• Assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of patients
• Maintains laboratory operating procedures
• Orders and distributes supplies as needed along with notifying appropriate individuals when supplies are low
• Performs receptionist duties at the front desk of the outpatient lab
