Phlebotomist | Casual
Work Schedule and Shift Premiums
As a casual employee, hours vary per week based on the needs of the department. Hours typically range from 6:30am - 12:00pm on Saturdays, where the Saturday premium is an additional $2.00/hour.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution
- Graduate of an accredited phlebotomy program preferred but not required
- ASCP certification desirable
- Previous phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting preferred but not required
- BLS certification (available through Hillsdale Hospital)
Responsibilities
- Uses appropriate techniques and procedures to obtain blood samples by venipuncture and skin puncture
- Instructs patients on proper collection procedures for urine collection, stool collection, and other miscellaneous collections
- Correctly labels all specimens and checks for quality
- Assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of patients
- Maintains laboratory operating procedures
- Orders and distributes supplies as needed along with notifying appropriate individuals when supplies are low
- Performs receptionist duties at the front desk of the outpatient lab
