About the role
The Phlebotomist I is responsible for accurate collection and handling of patient laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing according to established best practices in a professional medical environment.
Responsibilities
- Accurately collect patient specimens for diagnostic testing
- Work in a dynamic and engaging team environment
- Collect specimens from various acuities including Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Inpatient – including newborns, patients in intensive care, and all other areas of the hospital
- Adhere to and enforce laboratory compliance and safety regulations
- Navigate multiple computer systems and work independently
- Communicate procedures and instructions with patients and family members
- Develop skills such as patient registration, participation in CODE response teams, training and mentoring new staff, and specimen processing
- Participate in special projects as required
Requirements
- BLS Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred
- Six months of phlebotomy experience, phlebotomy training, or national certification as approved by manager/supervisor, preferred
