Essential Functions

  • Accurately collect patient specimens for diagnostic testing.
  • Work in a professional medical environment as part of a dynamic team.
  • Perform specimen collection using techniques such as venipuncture, capillary puncture, PIVO, and throat swab collections.
  • Collect specimens from various acuities including Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Inpatient settings.
  • Adhere to and enforce laboratory compliance and safety regulations.
  • Navigate multiple computer systems and work well as a member of a team.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Communicate procedures and instructions with patients and family members.
  • Manage stressful situations professionally.
  • Take on-call shifts and participate in holiday rotations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Six months of phlebotomy experience, phlebotomy training, or national certification as approved by manager/supervisor

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients.
  • Walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment.
  • Push/pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
  • Stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • Drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
