About the role
The Phlebotomist plays a vital role in determining patient diagnoses and treatment by expertly performing blood collection and specimen processing, ensuring the highest level of patient care.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and process blood specimens via capillary or venipuncture, ensuring integrity, proper disposal, and timely distribution to testing areas with special instructions.
- Perform venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations, utilizing appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples and adhere to appropriate volume requirements.
- Maintain order and cleanliness of phlebotomy trays, stations, and storage rooms.
- Practice positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions.
- Practice HumanKindness and courtesy with all patient and co-worker interactions, establishing and maintaining good communication within the department and with other hospital departments.
- Comply with isolation and hand sanitization procedures.
- Follow blood collection procedures, perform Blood Bank collections, and follow written collection and Blood Bank banding procedures, demonstrating accuracy and good penmanship, and adhering to specimen requirements.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or GED.
- Basic Life Support - CPR within 90 days.
- 3 months phlebotomy in an acute care facility (preferred).
Preferred
- Phlebotomy Technician certification.
