The Role
As our Phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in determining patient diagnoses and treatment by expertly performing blood collection and specimen processing, ensuring the highest level of patient care. Every day you will expertly obtain and process blood specimens via capillary or venipuncture, ensuring integrity, proper disposal, and timely distribution to testing areas with special instructions, all while performing clerical duties and prioritizing patient comfort. To be successful in this role, you will possess the precise clinical skills for blood collection and specimen handling, coupled with a genuine passion for helping others. You will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and a special talent for making patients feel comfortable during blood work, while adhering to lab collection turnaround times.
Positive Patient Identification & Communication
- Always practices positive patient identification, demonstrates kindness and courtesy, and maintains excellent communication with patients and colleagues
Phlebotomy Expertise
- Performs venous and capillary punctures on all age groups, following proper procedures for sample quality and volume, including specialized Blood Bank collections
Aseptic Technique & Orderliness
- Complies with isolation and hand sanitization procedures, and maintains clean, organized phlebotomy work areas and storage
Efficient Workflow Management
- Prioritizes work to meet laboratory turnaround times, organizes draw requests efficiently, and assists with phlebotomy training
Specimen Handling
- Processes and intakes specimens, ensuring proper distribution to laboratory testing areas
Teamwork & Problem-Solving
- Takes responsibility for department workflow, actively supports team members, fosters collaboration, and uses good judgment in problem-solving
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent customer service and time management skills
- BLS-CPR certification upon hire
Preferred
- Phlebotomy certificate
