Phlebotomist

Provides expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation. Ability to put patients at ease and obtain sufficient samples with minimal discomfort across a wide demographic is critical to our commitment to high-quality care.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment
• Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures
• Explain venipuncture or other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required
• Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper temperature, container, labeling, and transport protocols
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, including wearing appropriate PPE
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (required in CA, NV, WA, and LA)
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

• Excellent patient interaction skills, both in person and by phone
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
