Responsibilities

• Identifies patients, collects samples and labels specimens according to established protocol in order to provide optimal sample quality for laboratory analysis.
• Collaborates with co-workers to inform them of relevant departmental policies and procedures and allocate tasks as needed.
• May schedule and assign work to staff members, monitor work quality and quantity, and ensure efficient departmental operations by providing supervisory support when needed.
• Performs an acceptable productivity level without a significant error rate on a variety of waived or moderate complex procedures.
• Collaborates with co-workers to enhance co-worker performance through cooperative effort and action.
• May provide quality training and orientation for assigned employees.
• May assist in the supervision and training of lower-level Phlebotomists.

Qualifications

• One year of phlebotomy experience with demonstrated proficiency in working with patients of all age groups.
• A high school diploma or equivalent required.
• May be required to obtain a Louisiana Medical Laboratory Assistant License through the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME) within six (6) months of employment if performing waived or moderate-complexity testing duties.
