Phlebotomist 2

Responsibilities

• Draws and collects blood samples from patients, verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Performs all pre-analytical functions.
• Complies with safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a safe environment.
• Operates the laboratory centrifuge according to specified guidelines.
• Processes clinical specimen and order functions within specified guidelines.
• Fulfills aseptic collection procedures for blood cultures with a contamination rate below 3%.
• Maintains phlebotomy areas in a sanitary and properly supplied condition.
• Ensures positive patient identification and specimen labeling with less than 2 incidents per year.
• Utilizes specimen collection devices and techniques correctly with less than 2 incidents per year.
• Participates in committees, department processes, and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• 1 year Phlebotomy Experience
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Phlebotomy, MLA, or MA certification or license obtained within three (3) months of employment
• Certified Phlebotomist or obtain a La. Medical Laboratory Assistant license
• Good interpersonal/human relations skills
• Good oral/written communication skills
• Good teamwork skills
• Good critical thinking/decision making skills
• Good organizational skills
