PhD Position with Scholarship – Materials Modeling Description - Italy
About the role
The European Ceramic Society is offering a three-year PhD position with scholarship in computational modeling of material behavior across length scales, within the SunRise FIS 2023 Project.
Responsibilities
- Develop and validate numerical models to simulate the mechanical performance, failure and crack propagation mechanisms, and residual stress effects in 3D-printed nano- and micro-structured materials and coatings.
- Address problems in contact mechanics, fracture mechanics, and stress distribution in heterogeneous nano-architected materials.
- Train in finite element modeling and develop expertise in advanced techniques such as cohesive-zone and phase-field modeling.
- Work in close interaction with the experimental activities of the project, which will provide data for model calibration and validation.
- Contribute to the development of computational tools to predict load-bearing capacity, failure modes, and interface reliability in coated 3D-printed structures.
- Develop an independent research profile in computational and experimental materials mechanics under the supervision of the research team.
Requirements
Applicants should have a strong background in materials science, engineering, or a related field, with a solid understanding of mechanics, numerical methods, and programming skills.
Qualifications
A Master's degree in materials science, engineering, or a related field is required. Experience in computational modeling and experimental research is preferred.
Skills
- Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
- Experience with finite element analysis software
- Understanding of mechanics and material properties
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Benefits
The successful candidate will receive a scholarship covering tuition fees and living expenses during the duration of the PhD program.
Pay
The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience.
Schedule
The PhD program will run for three years, starting in the academic year following the successful completion of the application process.
