Pharmacy Technician Trainee - Riverside

About the role

This is a part-time position at Riverside Methodist Hospital. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee is expected to earn their certification within 6 months of starting.

Responsibilities and duties

• Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, accept new written, faxed or electronic prescription orders from a prescriber or a prescriber’s agent (excluding verbal orders)
• Enter information into and retrieve information from a database or patient profile
• Prepare and affix labels
• Stock dangerous drugs and retrieve those drugs from inventory
• Count and pour dangerous drugs into containers
• Place dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist
• Perform non-sterile drug compounding after completing site-specific training
• Perform sterile drug compounding after completing site-specific training
• Package and sell a dangerous drug to a patient or patient representative
• Send or receive electronic prescriptions between pharmacies accessing the same prescription records in a centralized database or linked pharmacy computers
• Review and interpret orders for pharmacy products needed for patient care, perform necessary interventions, and process according to department policy
• Obtain, prepare, and label pharmacy products according to department policy for final distribution
• Distribute pharmacy products to ensure availability for patient care
• Produce billing monitoring and usage documentation of pharmacy products for billing and inventory purposes
• Maintain inventory systems and integrity of pharmacy products to enable sufficient distribution
• Submit medication changes data to assure proper reimbursement
• Operate computer systems and solve problems related to operation of computers, printers, and other electronic equipment in the department

Minimum qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or foreign school diploma equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma; OR participating in a Board-approved high school training program
• At least 18 years of age; OR at least 17 years of age and participating in a Board-approved high school training program
• If 17, must provide a work permit
• Registered with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee (or immediately eligible for registration)
• Eligible to take the PTCB or ExCPT board certification exam within 6 months of hire
