Experience Required Typically requires 3 years of experience in health care, insurance industry, pharmacy, or medical background. At least 2 years of retail pharmacy experience preferred; general knowledge around insurance trouble shooting, prior authorizations, and copay assistance. Must be computer savvy, and have a drive to work in a high volume / high demand department with great critical thinking skills. Must be able to work well independently and well in a team environment. The Heart Failure Pharmacy Technician Specialist is responsible for receiving and/or processing prescriptions specifically related to specialty medications for various disease states, addressing and resolving rejected claims, conducting and completing necessary third party (insurance) specialty prior authorization requests. The advanced role that performs duties of in coordinating and managing all aspects related to insurance benefit information, authorization and billing. Interacts with pharmacists, medical/clinical staff, fiscal personnel, department managers, access services staff, coding staff, billing assistants, interdisciplinary caregivers, and patients. The Technician is expected to maintain a general knowledge of all the disease categories adopted by Specialty Pharmacy Management. Performs services and functions within assigned area(s) where complex pharmaceutical processes require the utilization of advanced skills and knowledge beyond those routinely required across pharmacy technician roles. Works primarily in unique pharmacy environments.
