Job Duties
- Prepare and compound sterile parenteral/enteral pharmaceutical and chemotherapeutic agents under pharmacist's supervision, demonstrating a commitment to excellence.
- Perform accurate prescription order entry processes that are held for pharmacist’s review and authorization.
- Initiate and complete delivery forms.
- Attend and participate in all patient care meetings and conferences.
- Prepare, record and monitor results for pharmaceutical quality assurance testing.
- Assist in maintaining the pharmacy facility in adherence to Policy and Procedures for achievement of excellent audit results.
- Responsible for knowing and adhering to Policy and Procedures governing pharmacy operations.
- Assist pharmacist(s) in inventory procedures including record keeping and ordering.
- Log and shelve incoming inventory.
- Maintain the confidentiality of patients and their personal information at all times.
- Assist the pharmacists, when requested, in all duties and functions according to standard practices of the profession and state, federal and other applicable laws.
- Stays abreast of developments in field of home infusion therapy.
- Attends continuing education/workshops recommended by the State-Board of Pharmacy and accrediting agency.
- Participate in any continuing education and inservices as requested by management.
- Perform other tasks as requested by pharmacists on duty and supervisor.
Requirements
- Education Required – High School diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of a pharmacy technician training program
- Work Experience Required – 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician
- Preferred - Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance Experience With Parenteral Products.
Skills and Abilities
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
- Working knowledge of pharmaceutical mathematics.
- Working knowledge of sterile technique and demonstration of aseptic technique proficiency.
- Working knowledge of safety guidelines for handling chemotherapy.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
- Skills to operate standard pharmacy and office equipment.
- Knowledge of basic drug terminology, pharmaceutical evaluation, pharmacology and pharmaceutical law.
- Excellent aseptic technique must be demonstrated on an ongoing basis.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
