Responsibilities

  • Assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Assists the pharmacist in the performance of Pharmacy Department duties, including:
    • Entering patient and drug information correctly.
    • Filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
    • Assisting pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
  • Reports prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adheres to Company policies and procedures related to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Strictly adheres to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
  • Registers all related sales on assigned cash register, collects and handles cash as required.
  • Assists customers in locating over-the-counter products.
  • Handles telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including those to physicians.
  • Processes (corrects and resubmits) manual claims for third-party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assists with inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintains knowledge of Company asset protection techniques and files claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs.
  • May assist pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples from patients and coordinating clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
  • Assists Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
  • Ensures the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies and maintains a clean, neat, and orderly appearance.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures and maintains respectful relationships with coworkers.
  • Models and delivers a distinctive and delightful customer experience by:
    • Engaging customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
    • Resolving customer issues and answering questions to ensure a positive experience.
    • Sharing customer service best practices with team members, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).

Qualifications

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.

Training & Personal Development

  • Earns and maintains PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state-required certification/registration. PTCB certification may be required as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
  • Attends training requested by the manager and acquires continuing education credits.
  • Maintains knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including staying updated on the latest news and developments.
  • The pharmacy technician training program provides courses, learning activities, and resources to give you foundational and advanced knowledge, skills, and on-the-job experiences needed to prepare for certification.

Pay

Salary Range: $17 - $20.50 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors including geography, skills, abilities, education, experience, and other relevant considerations.
