Pharmacy Technician / Pharm Tech Apprenticeship

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company regulations.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Assist the pharmacist in performing Pharmacy Department duties according to Company policies and procedures.
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying accuracy, and checking for possible interactions.
• Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
• Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies regarding pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
• Strictly adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all prescription dispensing activities.
• Register all related sales on assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required, and assist customers in locating over-the-counter products.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
• Process manual claims for third-party program prescription services efficiently and perform other clerical duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
• Assist in inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
• Maintain knowledge of Company asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs.
• May assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples from patients and coordinating clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
• Assist the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
• Maintain the Pharmacy Department’s appearance by ensuring it is stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Customer Experience

• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
• Model and share customer service best practices, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
• Develop strong relationships with the most valuable customers.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Preferred Qualifications

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
• Good computer skills.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.

Training & Personal Development

• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state-required certification/registration. PTCB certification is a condition for promotion to senior technician.
• Attend training requested by the Manager and acquire continuing education credits.
• Maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy, including staying updated on the latest news and developments.

Pay

Salary Range: $17 - $20.50 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors such as geography, skills, abilities, education, experience, and other relevant considerations.
