Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies.
  • Safely and efficiently maintains drug inventory processes including rotation and restocking of drug dispensing areas with drugs and supplies needed to process patient medication orders.
  • Communicates effectively with other team members, physicians, and patients.
  • Prepares intravenous admixtures under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
  • Assists in accurately labeling and dispensing inpatient unit dose medications according to department policy.
  • Delivers medications to patient care areas as needed.
  • Compounds medication by means of weighing, measuring, mixing, blending, filtering, distilling, emulsifying, and titrating, according to standard pharmacy practices and department policy.
  • Delivers and fills controlled substances and other medications to nursing units' automated medication dispensing cabinets (ADC) timely and accurately.
  • Reconciles all narcotic discrepancies on a daily basis.
  • Prepares medications and subsequently loads and unloads medications into ADC with appropriate barcode scanning.
  • Answers phones according to established phone etiquette and directs calls to the proper personnel.
  • Prepares and packages hazardous medications and other medications requiring special handling for subsequent administration to patients under the supervision of the pharmacist.
  • Maintains all necessary paperwork, legal documents, and records for all medications, prepared for administration.
  • Participates in departmental quality-assurance and safety activities for drug usage, infection control, and handling hazardous materials according to state/federal regulations and departmental policy.
  • Assumes responsibility for performing job duties in the safest possible manner, to ensure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Effective oral and written English communication.
  • Strong ability to multitask.
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others.
  • At least one year of pharmacy experience (outpatient or inpatient).
  • Valid New Jersey Pharmacy Technician License.
  • PTCB or ExCPT Certification Required within 6 months of start of employment with the following exceptions:
    • Hired prior to July 2024
    • Actively enrolled in ACPE accredited school of pharmacy / another allied health program

Compensation

Minimum rate of $23.13 Hourly
