About the Role

Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, this role oversees and guides pharmacy technician staff or a specific area/program, ensuring timely completion and accuracy of work, maintaining regulatory compliance, and promoting a culture of safety and quality. Responsibilities include leadership, technical support, training, efficient operations, automation troubleshooting, and proper drug distribution to address customer needs.

This is a full-time position (35 hours/week) located at the Winston Campus, offering a $6,000 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates.

Schedule

  • 3rd shift, 7 days on / 7 days off
  • 10-hour shifts
  • Rotation runs Wednesday - Tuesday

Pay

Pay range: $25.30 - $37.95 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Leads the shift or area/program by assigning, monitoring, and reviewing the progress and accuracy of technician work.
  • Acts as a resource for the team, providing day-to-day direction and guidance on complex issues, resolving conflicts, and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Assists leadership with teammate interviewing, selection, development, and engagement.
  • Creates staff schedules and monitors performance, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Trains, orients, and educates team members, ensuring competency and completion of required training programs.
  • Identifies quality improvement opportunities and collaborates with leadership to design and implement initiatives to enhance efficiency, safety, and engagement.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and ensures proper documentation and compliance with legal, regulatory, and accrediting bodies.
  • Troubleshoots issues with automation and technology, maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Collaborates with pharmacists and other healthcare providers to coordinate medication preparation, dispensing, and related processes.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory levels, processes drug recalls, and ensures appropriate handling of controlled substances.
  • Assists with all duties required of Technician I, II, III when needed.
  • Ensures proper documentation for department tasks, meeting legal and regulatory standards.
  • Reviews billing processes, adjusts patient bills as necessary, and processes charges and credits for medications where appropriate.
  • Assists in the preparation and review of pharmacy training materials and programs.
  • Acts as a role model for safe, effective, and efficient care, demonstrating skills and knowledge necessary for pharmacy technicians.
  • Demonstrates expertise in pharmacy practices, including medication handling, regulatory compliance, and automation troubleshooting.
  • Acts as a liaison between the technician team and department leadership.
  • Handles billing and insurance processes, including prior authorizations and third-party claims where appropriate.
  • Applies knowledge of age-specific care requirements to assess and meet the needs of diverse patient populations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • For technicians in NC with validating technician responsibilities: an associate’s degree in pharmacy technology is required.
  • Registration/Licensure with state board of pharmacy per state of employment requirements.
  • Certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or National Health Career Association (ExCPT).
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in healthcare, insurance industry, pharmacy, or medical background.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a formal technician training program.
  • One year of previous pharmacy experience.
  • Associate degree in a healthcare or business-related field.
  • Additional relevant PTCB Certificates or advanced certification.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously.
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office, email, internet access, electronic pharmacy management systems, and pharmacy ordering and inventory systems.
  • Life support training courses may be required dependent on department discretion.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, kneel, climb, twist, crawl, and reach above shoulders.
  • May require extended periods of sitting.
  • Requires considerable walking, standing, pushing mobile carts of approximately 50 pounds, and lifting 35 pounds of material.
  • Must have functional vision, touch, and hearing.
  • Must be able to speak and be understood by others to communicate effectively.
  • Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to perform job duties and minimize exposure to hazardous agents, body fluids, and communicable diseases.
  • May be exposed to chemical hazards, chemical and hazardous waste, blood and body fluids, and communicable diseases.
  • Frequent fine motor motion of hands and wrists to perform manipulative skills such as writing, typing, data entry, and preparation of medications, including use of syringes.
  • Must take necessary precautions to avoid inadvertent needle sticks, minor cuts, or bruises.
  • Exposed to various conditions throughout the workday such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, and changes in temperature and humidity.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Flexibility to travel between pharmacy locations.
