Pharmacy Technician - Inpatient, Weekdays

About the role

Assists pharmacists and administrative staff in the provision of pharmaceutical care services. Responsible for participation in pharmacy operations, medication distribution, inventory control, and maintenance of personal technical competency. Additionally, provides exemplary customer service, contributes to the efficient operation and productivity of the Pharmacy Department, and displays the interest and motivation to achieve excellence in pharmacy practice in the institutional setting.

Responsibilities

• Distributes pharmaceutical preparations under the direction of the pharmacist using pharmacy software and hardware systems.
• Executes medication distribution.
• Receives and stocks pharmaceuticals.
• Prepares medications in unit dose packaging.
• Fills code carts and emergency kits.
• Ensures integrity and compliance of unit medication rooms as needed.
• Responds to requests from health care providers.

Qualifications

• Distribution Responsibility: Prepares pharmaceutical preparations, executes medication distribution, receives and stocks pharmaceuticals, prepares medications in unit dose packaging, fills code carts and emergency kits, ensures integrity and compliance of unit medication rooms as needed, and responds to requests from health care providers.
• Inventory Responsibility: Ensures drug and supply availability, uses cost containment measures in ordering and maintaining pharmaceutical stock, maintains inventory records, and appropriately disposes of pharmaceutical waste.
• Operational Responsibility: Maintains confidentiality of patient and departmental information, provides positive, supportive, and courteous communications, and commits to functioning as an essential employee.
• Technical Skills: Documents maintenance of technical skills appropriate to pharmacy technician, successfully completes annual hospital required training, keeps Registered Pharmacy Technician license current, and maintains Certified Pharmacy Technician certification.

Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Licenses and Credentials: Pharmacy Technician [State License] required, Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred.
• Experience: Previous hospital-related experience, formal training, or certification from a pharmacy technician training program is desired, 1-2 years preferred.

Skills and Abilities

• Intermediate mathematical calculations associated with preparing non-sterile, extemporaneously manufactured pharmaceutical products and other medication doses.
• Follows all applicable state and federal controlled substance regulations.
• Reads, interprets, and follows complex verbal and written instructions to prepare medications accurately in a sterile environment.

Knowledge

• Perform intermediate mathematical calculations associated with preparing non-sterile, extemporaneously manufactured pharmaceutical products and other medication doses.
• Follow all applicable state and federal controlled substance regulations.
• Read, interpret, and follow complex verbal and written instructions to prepare medications accurately in a sterile environment.

• Pay Range: $21.75 - $26.58/Hourly, Grade: 3.
