PHARMACY TECHNICIAN - INPATIENT SERVICES - STROGER HOSPITAL - SHIFT: 2PM - 10PM (Rotating weekends)

This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between Cook County and RWDSU Local 200. Internal eligible applicants will be considered prior to external applicants.

About the Role

Under supervision, provides pharmaceutical care to all areas of Pharmacy Services including Inpatient and Outpatient services at Stroger Hospital.

Responsibilities

• Gathers and delivers medications to/from patient care units
• Fills and prepares Pyxis for patient-specific medication needs
• Prepares intravenous admixtures, including chemotherapeutic agents
• Prepares stock requisitions and places stock in proper storage locations
• Returns medications to stock
• Rotates and inspects medications for expiration dates
• Receives medications from the storeroom or outside delivery
• Fills orders for par-stock replenishment, as needed
• Prepares extemporaneous solutions and/or ointments, as needed
• Prepares medications for unit-dose distributions
• Answers and screens telephone calls for pharmacist, as needed
• Troubleshoots problems related to Pyxis stations
• Performs documentations, as instructed
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent (proof required at time of interview)
• Licensure as a pharmacy technician in the State of Illinois (proof required at time of interview)
• One (1) year of full-time work experience in a hospital as a Pharmacy Technician
• Active certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) program or Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) (proof required at time of interview)
• Ability to type at a corrected rate of 15 words per minute with at least 85% accuracy (typing test administered)

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual skills in English and Spanish

Physical & Environmental Demands

• Various types of physical exertion including walking, climbing, pulling, pushing, prolonged standing, and lifting/moving heavy objects
• Adherence to hospital and department-specific safety requirements, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hand hygiene, and engineering/work practice controls

Pay

Hourly salary range: $25.833 - $31.806. Salary is commensurate with years of experience documented at the time of application.
