About the role

The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient, Nights supports overnight pharmacy operations at Euclid Hospital, ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely preparation and distribution of medications for hospitalized patients. Working as part of a collaborative inpatient pharmacy team, this role offers the opportunity to practice in a close-knit community hospital environment while benefiting from the resources and support of Cleveland Clinic.

This position is based at Euclid Hospital with no routine float expectations and is eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $2,500.

Responsibilities

  • Follow established policies and procedures to support functions essential to the operations of the pharmacy department.
  • Perform packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, and pharmacy record maintenance.
  • Prepare medications (selection, labeling, repackaging, and non-sterile compounding).
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies.
  • Perform sterile compounding and IV preparation.
  • Operate and troubleshoot automated medication dispensing technology, including the medication carousel.
  • Respond to pharmacy calls and requests from clinical staff.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Appropriately use information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Pursue completion of the Cleveland Clinic’s School of Pharmacy Technology program in the first 12 months of employment.
  • Maintain good standing in the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program per the student handbook.

Schedule

This role works a night shift on a 7-on/7-off rotation:

  • 8:00pm–6:30am Wednesday through Saturday
  • 8:00pm–7:10am Sunday through Tuesday

Weekend and holiday coverage are included as part of the rotation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Upon hire, must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National HealthCareer Association (NHA).
  • Upon hire, must hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
  • Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months.
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds.
  • Basic computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six months of hospital experience
  • Successful completion of the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program within 18 months of hire

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching, and sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

The pay range for new hires is $21.50–$31.00 per hour. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. The pay range does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.) or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental and vision benefits, retirement savings account contributions, etc.).
