Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician II at Facility Dayton Children's - Main Campus Department Inpatient Pharmacy assists the pharmacist with medication preparation and dispensing. This role requires adherence to state and federal drug laws and regulations.
Department Specific Job Details
- Assists the pharmacist
- Works under direct supervision of the pharmacist on duty
- Prepares medications and properly displays product for pharmacist to verify and dispense
- Understands technician role vs pharmacist role and adheres to regulations established by the State Board of Pharmacy
- Consults pharmacist with questions pertaining to patient care and ensures procedures are followed appropriately
- Works cooperatively with other technicians and pharmacists to ensure overall goal of medication preparation is performed accurately and efficiently
- Answers the phone promptly and directs caller to the appropriate person
- Maintains integrity of pharmaceutical products throughout preparation
- Maintains a clean and orderly work environment
- Accurately prepares and distributes patient medications
- Sorts, stocks and labels medications and monitors inventory
- Aids in expired drug process and procedures
- Participates in departmental quality improvement projects
Compliance
- Works under supervision of the pharmacist following established policy and procedures set forth by the hospital and Pharmacy Department
- Adheres to safety practices in order to ensure quality care for patients
- Maintains biannual and annual competencies for USP guidelines
- Shows familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices
Training
- Encourages and motivates other pharmacy team members
- Masters job duties and responsibilities and takes active part in training and quality improvement projects
