About The Position

The Riverside University Health System –Medical Center is seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician II - Per Diem to join the Ambulatory Pharmacy Division in Moreno Valley. The Pharmacy Technician within the Ambulatory Pharmacy Division will play a key role in supporting patient access to specialty medications by processing and submitting prior authorizations, following up with payers to expedite approvals, and assisting patients in navigating manufacturer and assistance programs. This role supports ambulatory care clinic operations through patient management activities such as medication adherence outreach, refill reminders, care coordination, and communication with healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

  • Process new prescriptions and/or medication orders.
  • Prefill prescriptions/medication orders.
  • Using Sterile Technique, compound IV's, TPN's and Chemotherapy agents for dispensing as needed.
  • File prescriptions/medication orders as needed.
  • Fill medication cassettes.
  • Process billing.
  • Fill PYXIS dispensing machines.
  • Manage medication inventory through ordering, receiving, storing, and monitoring for expired or recalled products.
  • Support medication reconciliation by gathering and verifying medication histories.
  • Maintain compliance with clinic policies, HIPAA regulations, and safety standards while collaborating closely with pharmacists, providers, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure seamless continuity of care.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in the state of California.
  • One year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a healthcare or community pharmacy.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician training course in accordance with the California State Board of Pharmacy licensing requirements.
  • Thorough understanding of drug categories, metric system, pharmaceutical calculations, and medical terminology; generic and brand names, and understand the use restrictions that apply.
  • Drug distribution systems; quality assurance and continuous quality improvement.
  • Excellent customer (physicians, nurses and patients) service; professional standards and practices; federal, Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission, and DHS laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to patient care and dispensing of legend and non-legend pharmaceuticals and poisons.
  • Pharmacy systems databases and equipment; department and hospital policies and procedures pertinent to pharmacy practice.

Skills

  • Communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal format.
  • Negotiate and resolve issues with insurance payers.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff and healthcare providers.
  • Organize and manage routine and new responsibilities.

Benefits

Per Diem classifications are distinguished from regular classes in that they receive additional compensation in lieu of County fringe benefits.

Pay

Salary range: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Schedule

Mon-Fri/8-hour day shift/40-hours per week (full-time per diem)
