Pharmacy Technician II - Inpatient - Evening Shift (2026-0751)

About the role

The Pharmacy Technician supports pharmacists by providing technical assistance in accordance with department policy and Washington State Law. This role maintains close communication with pharmacists and pharmacy coordinators, facilitating departmental and hospital programs in compliance with regulatory agency requirements.

This position reports to the Manager of Pharmacy Operations and works within the Hospital Inpatient Pharmacy and Infusion Center on a variable evening shift.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for drug distribution services across all hospital areas supported by the inpatient pharmacy, including the infusion center.
• Maintain basic knowledge of medications, including newly approved medications.
• Ensure competency with pharmacy regulatory requirements and departmental policies and procedures.
• Prepare parenteral medications and solutions, including hazardous drugs.
• Fill medication floor stocks, intravenous solutions, and other medications by restocking Pyxis automated dispensing cabinets.
• Restock and rotate medications, intravenous solutions, and supplies by the end of each shift.
• Complete unit and pharmacy-area inspections, remove outdated medications, and ensure cleanliness and security of medication storage areas.
• Deliver medications throughout the hospital and supported outlying areas.
• Assist with onboarding and orientation of new team members.
• Support the pharmacy purchasing department as needed.
• Provide assistance to nurses and other patient care staff regarding pharmacy services.
• Complete assigned competency assessments and additional responsibilities/projects as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency (GED).
• Current Pharmacy Technician credential in the State of Washington, in good standing as of hire date.
• National certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent (required for Tech II classification).
• Minimum 2-3 years of Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.
• Inpatient hospital pharmacy experience preferred, including IV admixture, unit dose preparation, Pyxis automated dispensing cabinets, and electronic medical records.
• Basic typing ability (30 wpm preferred).

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a diverse patient population.
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with technicians, pharmacists, and other patient care providers.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a dynamic work environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, Epic, and other pharmacy automation systems.

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Capable of walking and standing for extended periods throughout the work shift.
• Ability to perform extensive fine motor movements for parenteral admixtures, prepackaging, and compounding.
• Extensive data entry and keyboarding into computer systems.
• Ability to interpret and understand complex math for appropriate dosing and medication manipulation.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment when preparing hazardous and non-hazardous medications.

Pay

Salary range: $32.24 - $49.73 per hour, based on experience.
