Location: Fairview Ridges Hospital, Burnsville, MN
Hours: 48 hours bi-weekly
Schedule: Day/evening, every other weekend

About the role

Under the direction of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for day-to-day comprehensive pharmacy technician services in a complex medical environment. This may include unit dose dispensing technology and sterile medication compounding. The Pharmacy Technician II will skillfully use interpersonal, customer service, problem solving, and collaboration skills to support and influence operational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with care providers and pharmacists to ensure that patients receive the needed medication accurately, safely, in accordance with all legal requirements and policies, and in a professional and timely manner.
  • Under the direction of the pharmacist, receive prescription/orders from the electronic medical record, process manually or using the appropriate computer system and protocols, prepare drug therapy and/or dispense medication in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with all legal, regulatory agency, and Fairview requirements.
  • Maintain the IV hoods or isolators, clean room, and ante room according to manufacturer’s specifications and regulatory requirements as applicable.
  • Coordinate ordering and delivery of medications, supplies, and equipment to patients and clinical areas as requested.
  • Participate in regulatory, quality assurance, and process improvement activities and other projects as assigned.
  • Support the training of new trainees.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Less than 1 year of pharmacy technician experience in a complex pharmacy or healthcare environment.
  • Current or pending registration with the MN Board of Pharmacy.
  • Nationally certified as a Pharmacy Technician or become certified within 1.5 years. Certifying exams must have National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation, such as the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam or The Exam for Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited pharmacy technician training program.
  • 1 year of pharmacy technician experience in a complex pharmacy or healthcare environment.
