About the role

This is an open-pooled position. Applicants' education/experience will be considered and the position may be filled at a lower or higher level, as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares unit-dose medications specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
  • Retrives and delivers medication orders and supplies.
  • Prepares sterile products utilizing aseptic technique and USP 797 standards.
  • Compounds bulk and extemporaneous pharmaceuticals specific to patients needs including weight and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) utilizing USP 795 standards.
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate automated technology including compounding, repackaging, cartfill and Automated Drug Systems.
  • Communicates effectively with other pharmacy employees, healthcare professionals, and patients while appropriately recognizing age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
  • Maintains adequate drug inventories in pharmacy areas and patient care areas and notifies the appropriate personnel when shortages and/or outages are noted.
  • Performs quality assurance/improvement audits.
  • Maintains a neat clean and organized work area.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in staffing assignments.
  • Aids in filling ambulatory prescriptions specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
  • Aids in record keeping activities in any assigned area.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)
  • Preferred: ACPE approved IV (sterile products) certification
  • Preferred: Two (2) years pharmacy technician experience

  • Able to spend most of the day standing, walking, or bending
  • Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, pull, reach, push up to 50 lbs., and regularly and occasionally lift 0-30 lbs.
