Provides customer-focused services in the technical aspects of pharmaceutical care, under the direct supervision of the pharmacist and in collaboration with the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Actively supports organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Seeks supervision or consultation when unable to perform safely or effectively.
  • Presents a professional appearance and maintains ethical behavior.
  • Handles member and employee information with confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Demonstrates principles of safety and infection control.
  • Supports cash handling and asset management policies.
  • Contributes to team effectiveness by promoting respect, diversity, and effective communication.
  • Exhibits flexibility to adjust work assignments based on service needs.
  • Identifies and adapts new policies to improve service and quality.

Cash Handling

  • Ensures compliance with regional and departmental cash handling policies.
  • Secures funds to minimize risk of robbery or theft.
  • Operates cash register, completes daily cash-out procedures, and balances discrepancies.
  • Compiles accurate daily and month-end cash reports.
  • Ensures cash discrepancies do not exceed regional averages.
  • Provides cash receipts to patients and processes refunds/voided transactions with cosignatures.

Phone Handling

  • Answers and processes phone calls with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Uses appropriate greetings and demonstrates competence in phone system operations.
  • Transfers calls efficiently and ensures member requests are satisfied within one transfer.
  • Follows regional and departmental phone handling policies.

Member and Medication Transactions

  • Verifies member ID and records information per regional policies.
  • Refers concerns about ID, fraud, or misuse to a supervisor.
  • Documents and follows up on drug dispensing irregularities.
  • Ensures accuracy in dispensing prescriptions and OTC products.
  • Refers questions about prescriptions or health-related topics to a pharmacist.
  • Reprints call slips for patients upon request.

Stock, Supplies, and Work Area Management

  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area, including regular cleaning.
  • Unpacks, verifies, and stores supplies, including refrigerated items.
  • Checks invoices for accuracy and reports discrepancies.
  • Orders drugs and supplies to minimize outdated inventory.
  • Organizes outdated, overstock, and recalled items for return.
  • Manages unclaimed prescriptions and maintains OTC stock.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory for efficient workflow.
  • Updates drug and medical reference sources.
  • Processes invoices, prescription records, and archives per policies.
  • Ensures proper storage and accountability for vaccines and equipment.
  • Supports physical inventory processes and asset management.

Prescription Processing and Compounding

  • Inputs prescriptions and patient data accurately into systems.
  • Uses correct codes for product, package size, and directions.
  • Documents medical comments for pharmacist review.
  • Inputs billing methods, co-pays, and fees accurately.
  • Verifies prescription details and pulls correct drugs.
  • Calculates quantities and conversions accurately.
  • Processes FOAs, off-site orders, and special circumstances.
  • Adheres to policies for scheduled medications.
  • Presents completed prescriptions to the pharmacist for verification.
  • Calculates and verifies ingredients for extemporaneous compounding.

Data Management

  • Inputs refill information and processes refill authorizations.
  • Makes decisions on prescription renewals or prescriber contact.
  • Collects and inputs accurate demographic information.
  • Generates and processes refill authorizations per policies.
  • Generates computer-based reports as requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Pharmacy Technician License (Oregon) required at hire.
  • Ability to speak and read English fluently.
  • Coherent, legible writing and correct spelling.
  • Effective communication in written, verbal, and non-verbal forms.
  • Customer-focused service skills.
  • Accurate math calculations, including aliquots, concentrations, and dilutions.
  • Reliable attendance and positive team impact.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multi-tasking and cash handling experience.
  • Personal computer skills and attention to detail.
  • Team player with flexibility.
  • Work experience in retail, business office, or service industry.
  • Previous pharmacy technician experience.
  • Completion of a recognized technician training program.
  • Post-high school course in medical terminology.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Variable shift: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM.
  • Onsite at Mt. Scott Medical Offices, Clackamas, Oregon.
  • 5% travel required.

Pay

$30.45 - $35.28 per hour. Actual base pay determined at offer based on market data, internal alignment, and candidate qualifications.
