About the role

Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist ‐ and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and the standard policies and procedures of the department ‐ assists the pharmacist in all aspects of the medication, IV solution, and pharmaceutical supply distribution systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory Management:
    • Routine review of inventory to ensure appropriate quantities are available to meet patient needs
    • Performs accurate cycle counts
    • Ensures safe storage of all medications according to manufacturer recommendations and established practices
    • Affords assistance in receiving, verification, documentation, unpacking and placing into inventory medications and supplies and reports any discrepancies as necessary.
  • Safe Medication Distribution:
    • Stocks automated dispensing cabinets
    • Utilizes all medication safety tools including barcode scanning, routine/double checking and compounded preparation aides
    • Accurately, timely delivery of medications to nursing units and procedural areas
    • Participates in routine medication distribution activities including cart-fill, restocks, floor stock requests, repackaging and preparation for dispensing with a focus on safety and accuracy
    • Returns and appropriately processes unused medications with an understanding of impact on charging and necessary credit processes.
  • Sterile Compounding:
    • Prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile products using aseptic technique
    • Works to ensure all established 797 requirements are adhered to
    • Must attend all training and pass all required competencies and testing according to established policies and procedures to maintain eligibility to work in IV room
    • Maintains compliance with all routine cleaning and maintenance of cleanroom spaces as identified in standard operating procedures
    • Ensures timely completion of all required documentation for cleaning, compounding, and competencies
  • Quality Improvement:
    • Participates in audits and other evaluation techniques to monitor regulatory compliance
    • Completes all competency and skill assessment requirements
    • Participation on teams, project workstreams, committees or data collection projects as needed
    • Identifies and communicates areas in which quality improvement processes or opportunities can be applied
    • Demonstrates his/her contributions to promoting the success of the department yearly goals through the completion of individual goals and actively contributes to the establishment of routine/annual goals.
  • Employee Engagement:
    • Actively participates in orientation, education, and training programs
    • Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills
    • Assists in the training and development of new staff
    • Active attendance and participation in huddles, staff meetings and appropriate training
    • Learns from mistakes and helps to foster an environment of constructive feedback
    • Actively engages and performs other duties as requested and observed by manager or supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification preferred but not required for hire
  • All Technicians will be encouraged to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam. Supporting educational material will be provided.

Pay

$17.86 - $28.29/hour, DOE
