About the role

The primary role of the Pharmacy Technician is to assist Pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and managing patient records. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, along with certification as a Pharmacy Technician.

Responsibilities

  • Compounds intravenous admixtures or other sterile products accurately and in compliance with USP797.
  • Keeps appropriate stock levels of compounding materials, gowns, gloves, diluents, IV bases, and medications.
  • Fills prescriptions accurately with facility appropriate packaging and auxiliary labeling, as well as stock requisitions and automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Restocks and maintains inventory levels in work areas with labels, consumables, containers, and other necessary production materials.
  • Prepackages bulk medications in unit dose packages and packages medications for dispensing accurately per established procedures.
  • Keeps the Pharmacy clean, neat, and well organized, keeping waste stream separate, and completing monthly medication storage area inspections.
  • Assists with answering telephones, identifying self and department, and answering requests at the door.

Requirements

Must possess a current certification as a Pharmacy Technician and maintain it if applicable. Must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations. Must maintain confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information. Must be able to organize and prioritize assignments, demonstrate independent thinking, and possess manual and finger dexterity.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Certification as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.
  • One to two years of pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Maintain current Technician Certification if applicable.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy law, numerical ability, aseptic technique, accurate analysis and evaluation of orders required.
