Pharmacy Tech III (PRN)

About the role

The Pharmacy Technician III serves as a part of the healthcare team at UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper and collaborates with other team members to provide optimal care. Essential duties include filling, preparing, and delivering medications under supervision, triaging and escalating issues, maintaining quality, and demonstrating patient interview skills.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership for the work area
• Works independently with little oversight
• Applies professional knowledge while working in specialized areas of pharmacy practice
• Continually seeks out additional training opportunities and stays updated on new and changing information
• Fills, prepares, and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner
• Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
• Trips and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed
• Uses appropriate systems for processing of patient information
• Maintains quality according to departmental and legal requirements
• Operates pharmacy equipment
• Maintains considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects
• Demonstrates patient interview skills and strong written and communication skills with other healthcare professionals

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required
• Experience: 4 years of relevant experience, or 2 years of employment required
• Licensure: Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration is required. PTCB or ExCPT certification required
• Additional Skills/Requirements: Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; basic technology skills; physical demands include constant sitting, standing, walking, and bending/stooping; proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs. occasionally; ability to work as part of a high performing, change ready, and resilient team; ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed;
