He/she uses critical thinking skills and exercises independent decision-making as needed for the provision of safe and rational medication therapy. Furthermore, he/she understands and exemplifies excellent customer service. Responsibilities Supports the practice of pharmacy in accordance with all applicable regulations and upholds pharmacy policy/procedures as appropriate Accurately and efficiently supports drug distribution processes under the direction and supervision of licensed pharmacists. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with colleagues, physicians and other care providers. Supports department operations and assures responsibility for professional development. Establishes standards/norms for technician support services and ensures safe drug distribution processes by adherence to all applicable policies and procedures (e.g. sterile product compounding).Demonstrates independent leadership and professionalism. Interprets and appropriately responds to customer service needs (telephone, verbal, etc).Understands and correctly compounds parenteral nutritional supplements (i.e. TPN’s, PPN’s, pumpers, etc.). Is able to manipulate and correctly prepare IV medications for patient administration. Consistently performs quality control samples on a yearly (or adhoc) basis to help ensure the safe preparation of IV compounds. Understands, and is able to proficiently utilize the medication order entry computer system. Accurately inputs and processes patient specific data, medication order entries, special instructions, and /or patient profile notes. Compounds chemo and/or caustic medical therapies, utilizing safe, sterile, and appropriate techniques as established by department/manufacturer guidelines. Understands safety precautions, and is able to sufficiently perform the steps involved in the clean-up and disposal of hazardous materials. Assists with inventory control via purchase orders, invoices, product delivery verification and resource management. Understands and is proficient at compounding and pre-packing unit of use medications for various routes (i.e. oral, Iv, rectal, etc). Can effectively utilize, and actively maintains up to date competencies for all pharmacy equipment (pyxis, repackaging software, kit check, etc). Qualifications Required: CA Pharmacy Technician Registration. 1 year hospital pharmacy experience or completion of an accredited technician school. Good written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate good command of basic mathematical calculations. Preferred: Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB). High School Graduate or equivalent. TPN and chemotherapy preparation, technician order entry, satellite services, and pyxis/omnicell experience. Familiarity with: tech check tech, medication safety, and Med rec process.
