Job Description
Dispense prescription drugs to patients, and assist in the preparation and charging of medications and supplies under the supervision of the pharmacist in charge. Provide quality patient care and excellent customer service. Processes, enters and interprets physician orders, and mixes complex sterile (including cytotoxic) products, using aseptic technique. Follow departmental procedures with regard to inventory control, claims submission and other administrative tasks.
Job Requirement
- Education: Actively enrolled in or recent (six months) graduate of pharmacy school curriculum and appropriate state licensure as Pharmacist Intern.
- Experience: Retail pharmacy, claim reconciliation or accounting background helpful.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Input customer and prescription data into pharmacy computer system.
- Create prescription labels, accurately retrieve medication for dispensing, and place medication into prescription containers, done under supervision of pharmacist and in accordance with local and federal law.
- Ensure excellent customer service in the Retail Pharmacy department.
- Using aseptic technique, accurately prepares Compounded Sterile Products (CSP), including chemotherapeutic medications under the direct or indirect supervision of a Pharmacist.
- Ensures the safety of all patients and personnel by following CHC protocols and NIOSH/OSHA guidelines for preparation, delivery, and disposal of potentially cytotoxic agents.
- Inventory control and accurate handling of pharmaceuticals, packing slips and invoices.
- Handle telephone inquiries, and assist in resolving issues and complaints in a timely manner.
- Ensure claims are properly filed in the QS-1 NRx environment.
- Enter customer purchases into Point-of- Sale system.
- Enters physician orders correctly, checks patient profiles, allergies, duplicate therapies and drug interactions for review by a Pharmacist or other qualified healthcare professional.
- Precisely charges and credits patients, nursing units, and other facilities for medications dispensed from Pharmacy.
- Maintains drug (including controlled substances), research, indigent, and sample inventories and associated logs.
- Accept telephone prescriptions and refills from physician offices as well as written prescriptions from patients.
- Complete paperwork related to filling prescriptions.
- All other duties as assigned.
