Pharmacy Intern

Responsibilities

• Completion of a comprehensive training roadmap focusing on Key Learning Experiences (KLEs) that build aptitude in areas such as:
  • Following company SOPs at each workstation
  • Pharmacy workflow procedures
  • Providing empathetic and caring service
  • Counseling patients and fielding medical questions
  • Telephonic prescription handling
  • Maintaining inventory activities
  • Supporting immunizations
• Assisting the pharmacy team to ensure smooth operations, prompt prescription fulfillment, and safe, accurate service
• Operating as part of the pharmacy team through consistent application of SOPs, best practices, and effective communication
• Learning to demonstrate empathy and genuine care in customer interactions
• Offering to counsel, field medical questions, and gather patient information, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist
• Taking telephonic prescriptions, clarifying prescriptions, and facilitating medication changes, where allowed by state regulation
• Maintaining self-awareness and providing in-the-moment coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members
• Completing basic inventory activities, as permitted by law, and as directed by pharmacy leadership
• Contributing to a high-performing team, embracing a growth mindset, and being receptive to feedback
• Remaining flexible for both scheduling and business needs, while contributing to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic
• Voluntarily traveling to stores in the market to work shifts as needed by the business
• Understanding and complying with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles
• Complying with CVS policies and procedures to ensure patient safety, comply with controlled substance dispensing and recordkeeping, and protect patient privacy and security
• Delivering additional patient health care services, such as immunizations, point-of-care testing, and staffing offsite clinics, where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification
• Supporting immunizations by completing additional licensure and training requirements, obtaining Technician Immunizer status, educating patients about the importance of vaccines, and monitoring for adverse reactions

Qualifications

• Accepted into, or actively enrolled in, an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy
• Possess, or be in the process of obtaining, valid intern and/or technician licensure as required
