About The Role The Collection Specialist is responsible for collecting and posting payments managing patient account payments and resolving past-due patient balances. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Monitor accounts receivable and identifies overdue accounts to be addressedContact customers with overdue accounts and attempt to either collect the overdue amount or negotiate a payment plan to collect it in installmentsUse credit bureau data post office information internet searches and other tools to try to locate customers who have moved or changed phone numbersMaintain records of contacts and attempted contacts with delinquent account customers as well as records of any payments collected from the customerResolve customer issues and complaints concerning billing or escalate to supervisor as neededSubmit regular reports on the status of unpaid accounts and any repayment progressCommunicate any insurance changes or Accounts receivable trends among the teamMaintains a level of productivity suitable for the department.Answering questions from patients clerical staff and insurance companiesParticipating in educational activities and attending staff meetingsMaintaining the strictest confidentiality; adhering to all HIPAA guidelines and regulationsOther duties as assigned Skills/Abilities Ability to operate a computer computer software and basic office equipmentAbility to operate a multi-line telephone systemSkill in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful mannerAbility to read understand and follow oral and written instructionsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients associates and the publicProficiency reading writing and speaking English is required Education And Experience 1 year of medical billing and collections practice experience preferredKnowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices preferredKnowledge of business office procedures Certificates/Licenses/Registration Pharmacy Technician Certification required (PTCB or NHA)Indiana and Pennsylvania State Pharmacy Technician license required, or willing to obtain Physical Requirements Work is performed indoors with potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to a home office environment. Could periodically travel to other office and operational sites. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
