About the role
The Pharmacy Clerk supports the daily operations of the Pharmacy Department.
Responsibilities
- Receives new prescriptions and enters information into the Pharmacy Practice Management system.
- Processes labels for new and refill prescriptions; consults with Pharmacist when warning or Drug Utilization Review (DUR) screen appears.
- Handles prescription refill requests.
- Stocks medications and fills supply bins with prescription vials and lids.
- Answers and directs phone calls; checks for messages and faxes.
- Verifies specific patient insurance information.
- Files paperwork and prescriptions under supervision of the Pharmacist-in-charge.
- Completes and processes third-party documents and transmissions, authorizations, and Treatment Authorization Requests (TAR).
- Keeps the Pharmacy work areas clean and organized.
- Delivers medications and prescriptions to other sites as instructed by staff pharmacist and/or Director of Pharmacy; maintains accurate logs of delivered items.
- Operates cash register, processes cash and credit card transactions, and obtains patient signatures for insurance documentation.
- Informs Pharmacist for prescriptions requiring consultation with the patient.
- Counts and maintains accurate assigned cash in the cash register; processes daily transaction reports and prepares bank deposit.
- Maintains prescription medication inventory levels; orders medications through software system.
- Processes incoming medication orders to verify items shipped match items invoiced; returns outdated, damaged, overstock, or recalled merchandise for credit and proper disposal.
- Checks expiration dates and rotates or removes stock medications; keeps medication stock shelving clean and organized.
- Assists Pharmacist-in-charge with inventory process.
- Monitors prescriptions in the wait area; checks fill date and removes prescriptions over seven days old or as instructed by Pharmacist-in-charge.
- Reverses orders online.
- Adheres to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy; regular attendance is considered an essential function.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Effective June 1, 2026, all individuals hired must possess proficiency in written and verbal communication, basic mathematics, computer applications, and technical systems.
- Proof of completion of high school with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or completion of General Educational Development (GED) with a minimum overall score of 162.5. If an individual has completed a higher-level degree with a stronger GPA, that GPA may be provided in lieu of the high school diploma.
- Two years of experience and knowledge of pharmacy processes and practices, typically learned on the job or successful completion of a pharmacy externship with Family HealthCare Network.
Skills
- Ability to prepare basic correspondence and simple reports in Microsoft Word.
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel to create tables and simple displays of information.
- Ability to create basic presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Effectively communicates routine or non-technical information to co-workers and others, both in writing and verbally.

- Regularly required to stand or walk and use repetitive hand movements to type and grasp.

Pay
Hourly rate: $21.00 – $28.60
