About the role
The Pharmacy Clerk is responsible for providing front-end customer service, assisting with basic administrative and clerical tasks, and supporting overall pharmacy operations. This includes mail order shipping functions, ensuring all prescription orders are packaged, labeled, and shipped accurately, safely, and in compliance with pharmacy procedures.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers and assist with check-in, prescription pick-up, and general inquiries.
- Operate the point-of-sale system and handle transactions accurately.
- Answer phones and direct calls appropriately.
- File and organize prescriptions and related documentation.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the front-end and waiting areas.
- Aid with inventory stocking and shelf organization.
- Communicate effectively with pharmacy staff and customers.
- Print and prepare shipping labels for prescription orders.
- Verify accuracy of patient information, prescription details, and shipping documentation.
- Package prescriptions securely in appropriate bags, boxes, or insulated containers as required.
- Cook up and ensure successful pickup with shipping carriers (UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc.).
- Make occasional short commutes to shipping carriers and storage units to drop off shipments or restock supplies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant shipping area.
- Support other tasks as assigned by pharmacists or managers to enhance pharmacy workflow and operations.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Prior experience in customer service or retail setting is a plus.
- A friendly, professional demeanor with strong communication skills is essential.
- The ability to multitask and maintain a high level of accuracy is crucial.
- Prior experience in shipping, logistics, or pharmacy operations is preferred but not required.
- A strong attention to detail and accuracy are necessary.
- Reliable transportation for occasional supply runs is required.
- The ability to work collaboratively with pharmacy staff and independently when needed is important.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift and move up to 40 lbs, stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods, and safely operate manual hand lift equipment.
