Nemours Children's Health is seeking a Pharmacy Buyer to join our team in Orlando, Florida. This is an onsite, full-time position working Monday-Friday from 7:30am-4pm, with no weekends or holidays.

About the role

This position coordinates the medication procurement process, oversees and maintains appropriate inventory stock levels, manages all related inventory and purchasing documentation, and ensures medications within the Pharmacy Department are properly stored, monitored, and maintained with appropriate dating and expiration controls to support safe, compliant, and efficient pharmacy operations. Additionally, this role may support operations as a pharmacy technician if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels of drugs and supplies, making purchasing decisions while complying with budget limitations and achieving a maximum inventory turnover rate.
  • Communicates in real time shortages of medications or changes in medication stock availability.
  • Oversees receiving, storage, and return of medications to the Pharmacy wholesaler.
  • Maintains invoicing for all drug and supply accounts.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and functionality of wholesaler and Lawson computer systems.
  • Coordinates disposal of all expired medications.
  • Assists with maintenance of database and paperwork on medication recalls.
  • Prepares Pharmacy Department for annual inventory by updating shelf labels, inventory supply forms, and databases as needed.
  • Functions as a Pharmacy technician as required, including:
    • Unit dose cart fill, Pyxis functionality, IV preparation (e.g., syringes, admixtures, chemotherapy, continuous renal replacement therapy, total parenteral nutrition).
    • Unit dose packaging, filling outpatient prescriptions, barcoding, Pharmacy inspections, oral liquid compounding.
    • Stock inventory maintenance and replenishment, code cart process.
    • Performs aseptic compounding of parenteral admixtures and other sterile dosage forms, including wearing appropriate personnel protective equipment and practicing aseptic technique.
    • Prepares medications for patients, completes necessary dispensing records, and delivers and exchanges medications.
    • Carries out calculations required for dosage determination and solutions preparation using metric system weight and volume equivalents.
  • Cross-trained to perform Lead Technician responsibilities based on the discretion of the Director of Pharmacy.
  • Ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations and professional policies of the pharmacy department.
  • Assists with maintaining appropriate stock levels in automatic dispensing cabinets, including expiration dating of medications.
  • Maintains punctual attendance consistent with Nemours policies and regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills to interact with internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience required.
  • State of Florida Pharmacy Technician Licensure required.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician required within 6 months of hire.
  • Hospital Pharmacy experience required.
