PHARMACY BUYER

About the role

The Pharmaceutical Buyer is responsible for maintaining an inventory of drugs and supplies in accordance with the current purchasing group programs. They prepare and place drug and supply orders with manufacturers and wholesalers, receive and store products, and assist in the unit dose packaging process.

Responsibilities

• Works closely with all departments to ensure medications are available for use
• Communicates with the Inpatient Pharmacy Staff about drug shortages, arrivals, allocations, and ordering issues
• Coordinates with the OR department on adequate medication stocking
• Communicates with the Director of Pharmacy Services on inventory matters
• Collaborates with vendors and manufactures on inventory shortages
• Fills and delivers requested drugs, fluids, and supplies to the dispensing pharmacy
• Reviews inventory levels and places orders for drugs, fluids, and supplies
• Checks invoices for accuracy and processes payments
• Maintains the Premier contract book and runs reports on pharmacy department usage
• Separates and packages returned goods for shipping
• Participates in CQI initiatives and assists in filling requisitions and floor stock orders
• Performs housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and orderly storeroom

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of a certified pharmacy technician program
• Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician
• Effective oral and written communication skills

Qualifications

• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently
• Physical stamina for extended periods of standing and moving throughout the facility
• Computer proficiency and ability to operate various medical equipment
• Knowledge of health care regulations and standards
