Overview
Texas Oncology is seeking a Certified IV Admixture Technician to support the Houston Willowbrook Location. This full-time position operates Monday through Friday, 8:00a - 4:30p or 8:30a - 5:00p, with no weekends or major holidays. The position can be at level I, II, or Senior based on experience.
Responsibilities
- Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
- Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
- Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
- Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
- Aids in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintaining records. Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
- Aids in cleaning hoods daily, checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities as assigned.
- Aids in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs. Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
- Prepares labels. Files and prepares billing. Basic data entry into department automation. Orders of medication and supplies as directed.
- Aid with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department in general to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.
Qualifications
- Level I: High School diploma or equivalent. Entry level to three years experience in a pharmacy.
- Level II: Minimum three to five years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills. I.V. certification preferred. Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended.
- Level Senior: Minimum five to seven years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills. Oncology background preferred or extensive I.V. preparation experience. Completion of an ASHP accredited program or community college based program recommended.
