About the role

The Pharmacist ensures the overall integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for all patients in the assigned geographic or specialty area, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for all patients in the assigned geographic or specialty area.
  • Screen and verify all drug-related orders for proper dosage, route, dosage form, and administration schedule.
  • Ensure expedited preparation and dispensing of all dosage forms by pharmacy personnel.
  • Resolve drug therapy problems, clarify and correct problematic drug orders, and designate pharmacy technicians to perform special assignments.
  • Counsel patients regarding the safe and proper use of their medications.
  • Resolve equipment and operational problems.
  • Monitor, screen, and verify all drug-related orders for proper dosage, route, dosage form, and administration schedule.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians as needed.

Requirements

Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Hire: Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required or obtained within the first 90 days of employment.

Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Continued Employment: Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy.

Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting. Previous experience with state of the art drug distribution and clinical service methods and drug information sources and retrieval and communication methods.

Education/training: Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited academic program. Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited academic program.

Qualifications

Must be available to work evenings, nights, and weekends.

Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speak clearly, write legibly, reading, logical thinking, fast pace environment, steady pace, able to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment, able to adapt to frequent change.
