About the role
Dispensing prescription medications in a high-volume pharmacy while providing a high level of member service.
Responsibilities
- Dispense prescription medications, measure and count medication into appropriate containers, and label prescriptions with warning stickers.
- Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone; select substitutions when necessary.
- Obtain patient medical history and maintain confidential computer records.
- Check prescriptions and over-the-counter medications for drug interactions.
- Counsel customers on proper medication usage and provide prompt, courteous customer service.
- Answer customer questions about over-the-counter medication and product location; address insurance issues and other concerns while preserving confidentiality.
- Assist in perpetual inventory of Schedule II to V controlled substances and participate in twice-yearly inventory of Department 92 and 93.
- Meet department production, record-keeping, and product storage procedures and standards; follow safety and security procedures.
- Assist with counter duties, execute Central Fill and DUR functions, and deliver immunizations.
- Approve and submit orders for equipment and supplies; order products using a computer system and coordinate maintenance and repairs for machinery and equipment.
- May act as Pharmacist-in-Charge during part of shift when Pharmacy Manager is not present:
- Serve as point of contact for regulatory, legal, third-party insurance companies, and audit situations.
- Monitor pharmacy to ensure complete legal compliance.
- Supervise Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants.
- Ensure proper cleanup and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Operate vehicles, equipment, or machinery as required.
- Assist with department duties and in other warehouse departments as necessary.
