Pharmacist-PRN

Join the Boone County Hospital Pharmacy Team today! We are seeking a dependable, flexible, and clinically focused PRN Pharmacist to provide intermittent coverage for our small hospital Pharmacy team. Hospital experience preferred, but willing to train quick learners.

About the role

• Supports staffing needs for weekends, weekdays, and possible on-call.
• Hospital hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm; Saturday and Sunday, 9:00am-1:00pm.

Responsibilities

• Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
• Interpret medication orders (verbal and written), transcribe to computerized patient medication profile accurately.
• Process patient and department charges accurately and timely.
• Maintain safety, integrity, and professionalism of pharmacy at all times.
• Maintain and implement Pharmacy Policy and Procedures.
• Participate in departmental quality assurance program.
• Issue controlled substances to patient care areas and maintain records as security as required by law.
• Compound and dispense pharmaceuticals including sterile products, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products accurately.
• Provide ongoing feedback to management regarding pharmacy operations and suggestions for improvement when appropriate.
• Sustain approved critical access hospital formulary by utilizing therapeutic interchange protocols and promoting rational drug therapy selection.
• Provide medication education to patients and families.
• Supervise pharmacy support personnel. Verify the daily activities of pharmacy technicians.
• Works independently with minimal supervision, ensuring that pharmacy services are provided in a timely manner.
• Answer telephone, direct calls to appropriate personnel, and answer requests at the window.
• Absorb and utilize EMR and other computer programs in an effective manner to provide optimal patient care.

Requirements

• Current license in good standing to practice Pharmacy in the State of Iowa.
• Graduate of ACPE accredited or equivalent College of Pharmacy.
• Training and proficiency in age-specific therapies for critical access hospital patients.
• Ability to manage day-to-day activities and minor staffing concerns.
• Effective communication with peers and upper-level management.
• Prioritize tasks and make overall decisions.
• Handle constant interruptions and multi-tasking.
• Able to learn and utilize EMR effectively.

Working Conditions

• Typical working conditions include sitting, walking, and extended periods of standing.
