Job Summary and Qualifications

The Pharmacy Intern Professional Level III is responsible for accurately performing advanced pharmacy intern and advanced pharmacy technician functions in a timely manner. Furthermore, a pharmacy intern will perform all duties under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Finally, a pharmacy intern will participate in a unique HCA program that will focus on progression from technician related work responsibilities to more advanced pharmacist level functions.

What You Will Do

  • Perform medication reconciliation/inpatient medication admission histories
  • Answer drug information requests from various health care professionals
  • Discharge counseling, medical reconciliation and prepare medication discharge lists
  • Identify candidates for possible IV to PO conversion
  • Give a pharmacotherapy based presentation (pharmacy preceptor, pharmacy staff, and/or hospital staff)
  • Attend, prepare, and participate in formulary or P&T committee meetings
  • Review patient order changes for possible adverse drug reactions
  • Retrieve and interpret lab values
  • Screen eligible patients and administer vaccines/immunizations
  • Understand and follow HCA hospital specific policies and procedures
  • Renal Dosing Monitor electrolyte replacement therapy
  • Understand hospital pharmacypurchasing practices
  • Identify drug shortage alternatives
  • Participate in educational activities within the Pharmacy Department including, but not limited to the following: Journal Club, Clinical Case Conferences, Patient Case Presentations, and Disease State Discussions
  • Shadow a pharmacist in area of interest
  • Assist with or identify projects that create operational efficiencies
