Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the designated Pharmacist-in-Charge for the pharmacy.
- Lead the end-to-end launch of the pharmacy from planning through go-live.
- Obtain and maintain: All applicable state Pharmacy License, DEA Registration, Controlled Substance registrations (as applicable), Nonresident pharmacy licenses across all required states, Veterinary pharmacy-related licenses and permits, NABP requirements, Additional state-specific pharmacy registrations.
- Work directly with Boards of Pharmacy, DEA, FDA, NABP, and other regulatory agencies.
- Develop licensing strategy for nationwide pharmacy expansion.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with changing federal and state regulations.
- Pharmacy Operations Design & Implement Scalable Pharmacy Operations:
- Including Prescription intake and verification, Pharmacist verification workflow, Dispensing processes, Quality assurance, Shipping and fulfillment, Controlled substance management, Returns and recalls, Inventory controls, Documentation and record retention.
- Compliance & Quality:
- Develop the pharmacy Quality Management System (QMS).
- Establish audit readiness processes.
- Maintain compliance with: Ohio Board of Pharmacy, DEA, FDA, Veterinary pharmacy regulations, State-specific nonresident pharmacy requirements.
- Lead regulatory inspections.
- Investigate and resolve compliance issues.
- Develop corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes.
- Clinical Oversight:
- Ensure safe dispensing of veterinary prescriptions.
- Establish pharmacist verification standards.
- Review medication safety processes.
- Develop protocols for: Prescription validation, Drug utilization review, Controlled medications, Medication errors, Adverse event reporting.
- Collaborate with Dutch veterinarians on prescribing workflows.
- Technology & Systems:
- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to design pharmacy workflows within: Pharmacy Management System (PMS), Warehouse Management System (WMS), EMR integrations, Shipping platforms, Inventory systems, Automation equipment, Labeling software, E-prescribing systems.
- Help define system requirements to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Inventory & Vendor Management:
- Establish pharmaceutical purchasing processes.
- Implement inventory control procedures.
- Monitor expiration dates and recalls.
- Optimize inventory turns while maintaining service levels.
- Support controlled substance inventory management.
- Team Building:
- Recruit, Hire, Train, And Develop Staff: pharmacists, Pharmacy technicians, Fulfillment staff, Pharmacy operations personnel.
- Create onboarding, competency assessments, and ongoing training programs.
- Cross-Functional Leadership:
- Partner Closely With Operations, Veterinary Clinical Team, Legal & Compliance, Finance, Product Engineering, Customer Experience, Supply Chain, Business Development.
- Drive pharmacy initiatives across the organization.
- Active Ohio Pharmacist License in good standing. Eligible to serve as Pharmacist-in-Charge in Ohio.
- Minimum 5 years of pharmacist experience. Minimum 2 years as Pharmacist-in-Charge or pharmacy leadership role.
- Experience opening or launching a pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, mail-order pharmacy, or healthcare operation.
- Deep knowledge of: Ohio Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA regulations, Nonresident pharmacy licensing, State pharmacy compliance, Controlled substance regulations.
- Experience with pharmacy management systems.
- Strong project management skills.
- Veterinary pharmacy experience.
- Mail-order pharmacy experience.
- Startup experience.
- Multi-state pharmacy licensing experience.
- Experience implementing pharmacy automation.
- Experience with accreditation programs (URAC, ACHC, VIPPS/NABP Digital Pharmacy, if applicable).
- Knowledge of veterinary medications and compounding regulations.
- Achieve >99.9% dispensing accuracy.
- Maintain 100% regulatory compliance.
- Establish KPIs for turnaround time, inventory accuracy, and customer service.
- Experience with AI tools.
