About the role

We're seeking a Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) to join our team of compassionate caregivers at Cibola General Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital. Our facility supports professional growth and development with the latest technologies, allowing our team to provide excellent patient care. Located one hour from Albuquerque and close to Santa Fe, Grants, NM offers a mild year-round climate, outdoor activities, low property taxes, and inexpensive housing costs.

Cibola General Hospital provides services in general surgery, 24-hour Emergency care, Intensive Care, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics, Pathology, Pediatric Dentistry, Podiatry, Primary Care, Radiology (X-ray, CT, MRI), three operating rooms (including a room for scopes), clinics, lab services, pharmacy, cardiopulmonary, rehab, and skilled care beds.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations, audits, and inspections.
  • Manage inventory, returns, recalls, and ensure proper storage of medications.
  • Serve as the Automated Dispensing Cabinet Super User (Omnicell).
  • Manage 340B program: routine accumulations and audits.
  • Ensure accurate billing of medications.
  • Maintain formulary in Cerner Electronic Health Record.
  • Ensure Sterile Compounding compliance.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials and dangerous drugs.
  • Maintain licensure and undergo annual pharmacy competency evaluation by the Director of Pharmacy.
  • Maintain adequate drug supply, prepare, compound, label, and dispense drugs.
  • Assess, interpret, and communicate age-specific criteria in medication therapy.
  • Maintain records of Pharmacy Department transactions as required by law and departmental policy.
  • Participate in approved continuing education programs.
  • Perform clinical duties as required by Medical Staff and Departmental policies, drug protocols, and personal discretion.
  • Educate nursing staff and patients on pharmaceutical care.
  • Supervise technical personnel in the department.
  • Participate in Rapid Response Team (code blue situations).
  • Adhere to CGH’s Compliance policy/Code of Conduct and report any questionable, unethical, or illegal conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS in Pharmacy; Pharm D. preferred.
  • Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of New Mexico as confirmed by the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy.
  • At least 1-2 years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

Skills

  • Perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods.
  • Work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff.
  • Handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
  • Respond quickly to emergency requests, set priorities, and solve problems.
  • Communicate effectively (orally and in writing).
  • Assist in meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check, reference checks, and a post-offer drug screen.
  • Must be employment eligible as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA).
  • Annual tuberculin screening required.
  • Hospital-required vaccinations and competencies.
  • Must be able to meet the physical conditions of the position.

Schedule

Full-time: Minimum of 32 hours per week. Includes weekends and holidays as necessary.
