About the role

PharMerica is hiring a full-time Pharmacist In Charge in Christiansburg, VA. Join our closed-door pharmacy team working in a non-retail environment dedicated to meeting the pharmaceutical needs of long-term care and senior living clients. Pharmacy Alternatives®, an affiliate of PharMerica, is a specialized pharmacy provider focused on serving individuals with cognitive or intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Pharmacy Alternatives offers long-term pharmacy solutions specializing in serving special-needs populations who live in intermediate care facilities, waiver homes, group homes, assisted living, supported-living or foster care. Our state-of-the-art approach includes packaging technology specially designed for the population we serve and electronic medication management that helps people live their best lives.

Responsibilities

• Ensure full compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws, regulations, and standards.
• Supervise and direct pharmacy staff in key operational areas including scheduling, purchasing, and clinical responsibilities.
• Collaborate with pharmacy management to implement efficient daily operations and quality improvement or cost containment strategies.
• Provide clinical and technical support to pharmacy and regional staff, fostering a team-based care model.
• Respond promptly and accurately to pharmaceutical inquiries from customers and internal staff, interpreting clinical needs and providing expert advice.
• Maintain comprehensive patient records, including medical history, lab data, and concurrent medications (including OTC and alternative therapies).
• Accurately document all communications with healthcare providers, patients, and caregivers in the pharmacy system.
• Secure and maintain necessary documentation to ensure compliance with federal/state regulations and corporate policies.
• Enforce safe practices for the procurement, storage, distribution, and disposal of medications and biological products.
• Document all communications and clinical interventions in the patient’s medical record, including interactions with families and caregivers.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the pharmacy team and patient care goals.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (BPharm or equivalent)
• Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of practice
• Demonstrated pharmacy experience
• In-depth knowledge of pharmacy laws and both federal and state regulations related to long-term care
• Familiarity with pharmaceutical care practices for long-term care residents
• Proficiency in computer use, including pharmacy management systems

Desired:

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
• Experience in long-term care pharmacy settings

Schedule

Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑5:00 pm, with flexibility as needed for operations support.

Pay

Salary range: USD $150,000.00 – $165,000.00 per year (based on experience and licensure).
