About the Role

The Clinical Staff Pharmacist assists the Department Director in providing specialized pharmaceutical services, including advising physicians on drug usage and control within assigned hospital locations. Participates in the development and delivery of clinical services and continuing education programs for Pharmacy, Patient Care Services, Medical staff, and students/residents.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized pharmaceutical services to improve drug usage and therapeutic outcomes, including advising physicians on drug therapy, toxicity, side effects, and appropriate medications and doses.
• Coordinate activities of pharmacy technicians in preparation, labeling, and delivery of medications, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• Mentor pharmacists in training, including Pharmacy Practice Students, Residents, Medical Students, and Residents.
• Maintain liaison relationships with medical and nursing staff, providing timely information on pharmaceutical supplies, drug usage, compatibility, and regulations.
• Conduct and evaluate medication histories, assess compliance, and suggest modifications to achieve desired outcomes.
• Individualize medication regimens using sound pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic principles to improve Pharmaceutical Care delivery.
• Serve on hospital patient safety and quality committees.
• Conduct and participate in research impacting quality care or examining pharmacoeconomic impacts.
• Prepare and dispense drug orders per physician request according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Interpret drug orders (verbal and written) and transcribe them accurately to computerized patient medication profiles.
• Compound and dispense pharmaceuticals, including sterile products, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products.
• Ensure safe, appropriate, cost-effective drug therapies for patients according to established policies and protocols.
• Work independently with minimal supervision, organize and prioritize work assignments, and ensure timely pharmacy services.

Requirements

• Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy degree or Pharm.D.
• Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Ohio.
• Hospital/clinical pharmacy practice experience required.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and handle frequent interruptions.
• Ability to work cooperatively with pharmacy staff, hospital staff, and physicians.
• Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond quickly to emergency requests.
• Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members.
• Punctual attendance at assigned work location is required.
• Ability to be mobile and communicate effectively (verbal and written).
• Ability to comply with OSHA regulations, USP 797/800 standards, CDC standards, and transmission-based precaution recommendations.
• Ability to comply with provisions of applicable S.D.S. forms.
