About the Role

Compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical supplies using standard procedures to deliver comprehensive professional pharmaceutical service in a modern hospital. Responsibilities include purchasing, continuing education programs, stocking supplies, preparing departmental reports, and maintaining an organized and efficient department.

Responsibilities

  • Dispenses drugs, chemicals, and other pharmaceutical preparations as ordered by physicians.
  • Provides pharmaceutical consultation to doctors or nurses and questions prescriptions when necessary.
  • Assists the Pharmacy manager in purchasing drugs from vendors and communicates with pharmaceutical company representatives.
  • Conducts drug checks and inspections on various floors as required.
  • Assists with the IV admixture program by verifying order completeness, accuracy, and compatibility.
  • Attends pharmacy-related hospital meetings as delegated.
  • Assists the manager with the Pharmacy Quality Assurance program and floor inspection reports.

Requirements

  • Current valid Pharmacist license through the state board where services will be provided (MD, OH, PA, or WV).
  • Experience in Hospital Pharmacy through internship or as a registered Pharmacist (preferred).

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of growth and development, patient needs, and scope of treatment.
  • Understanding of patient dynamics, including biophysical, bio-psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical, and discharge planning needs.
  • Knowledge of pain management and proactive pain control plans.
  • Familiarity with total care of patients, including those with non-curative diseases, focusing on symptom control.
  • Knowledge of professional and commercial aspects of Hospital Pharmacy, as well as State and Federal laws governing Pharmacy.
  • Computer experience is helpful.
  • Demonstrates competency in patient care assessment for all patient populations: Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds and push 50 pounds.
  • Dexterity required for fingering, handling, and reaching.

Schedule

Scheduled weekly hours: 40. Non-exempt shift position based in the United States.
