About the role
Join our team in a temporary Pharmacist role supporting complex pharmacy initiatives across multiple locations.
Responsibilities
- Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, ascertain needed ingredients, and evaluate suitability.
- Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
- Review, interpret, and dispense both prescription and non-prescription medication in a retail/community pharmacy setting.
- Respond to prescription issues and advise providers on medication selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects.
- Counsel patients on proper medication administration, possible side effects, expected response, storage, and other questions.
- Monitor patient health and progress in response to drug therapy.
- Learn and utilize new pharmacy technology as the profession evolves.
- Provide oversight and clinical supervision for pharmacy services and support personnel.
- In a medical center or institutional setting, review and interpret provider orders, provide drug information, and assist in problem-solving.
- Perform duties such as unit dose dispensing, IV admixtures, outpatient prescriptions, navigating electronic medical records, compounding, and working with automated dispensing devices.
- Assess pharmaceutical needs of patients across all age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Follow all established regulations and standards governing pharmacy practice.
- Act as a shift supervisor under direct or indirect supervision by department managers when required.
- Engage in pharmacy services across various specialties, including acute care surgery, neurology, cardiology, pediatrics, oncology, infusion services, intensive care, general medicine, dialysis, transplant, antimicrobial stewardship, and medication reconciliation.
- Perform decentralized clinical functions such as direct patient interaction, interdisciplinary team rounding, chart reviews, customer/patient counseling, and collecting accurate medication lists.
- Perform centralized clinical functions such as checking and dispensing medications and overseeing clinical functions of the IV room.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy.
- Thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions; knowledge of state and local regulations.
- Hospital experience or residency preferred for medical center or institutional settings.
- Pharmacy license must be in good standing by the State Board of Pharmacy in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
