Responsibilities

• Manages drug therapy protocols as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Reviews, interprets and evaluates medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential or actual drug related problems.
• Provides drug information and education to medical staff, healthcare professionals, patients, and pharmacy students.
• Determines the appropriateness of medications based on patient diagnosis, condition, and response to therapy.
• Documents interventions and their outcomes for use in drug therapy quality improvement efforts.
• Evaluates medication orders for accuracy and completeness prior to order entry.
• Checks for accuracy after filling by technicians.
• Maintains adequate knowledge of pharmacy automated systems and computer software.
• Accurately and appropriately issues controlled substances to patient care areas.
• Corrects and attends to all discrepancies with controlled substances as required by law.

Requirements

• Must have a bachelor's degree in pharmacy.
• Must be a licensed pharmacist in the state of New Mexico upon hire.
• One to two years as a licensed pharmacist preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid New Mexico Pharmacy License.
• Must be able to pass a background check.

Skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of pharmacy automation systems and computer software.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
