About the role

The Pharmacist coordinates drug distribution and pharmacy activities for the health center, ensuring safe and efficient methods for established pharmacy policy concerning drug patient care, 340B compliance, and providing clinical drug information to meet the needs of patients and clinical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Works within the health center’s EHR to locate, retrieve, or process information required for pharmacy operations and compliance.
  • Complies with all State and Federal Regulations governing pharmacy operations, including dispensing prescriptions, record-keeping, drug recalls, security, and sanitation.
  • Reviews and interprets providers’ orders for appropriateness, ensuring drugs are labeled, stored, and utilized correctly.
  • Counsels patients about medications and maintains accurate, up-to-date patient profiles.
  • Performs data entry, inventory, stocking, dispensing, reporting, preparing drug requests, processing returns, and selling prescriptions.
  • Verifies work performed by support personnel, including patient drug data entry, drug repackaging, 340B eligibility, and compliance.
  • Ensures the Pharmacy Department adheres to all State, Federal, and organizational standards and policies.
  • Maintains controls and records for auditable drugs and processes.
  • Provides drug information, such as dosing, compatibilities, and substitutes, to healthcare practitioners.
  • Participates in in-service education programs as requested.
  • Arranges to obtain drugs in emergency situations.
  • Maintains professional competency through continuing education as required by National and State Standards.
  • Participates in clinical programs such as drug-level monitoring, antibiotic monitoring, vaccine administration, floor stock consulting, and medication therapy management (MTM) consults.
  • Reports prescription errors to the Director of Pharmacy and assists in completing Medication Error Report Forms.
  • Ensures the quality of professional services is maintained.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Supervisory Duties

  • Indirectly supervises pharmacy technicians when a pharmacy manager is not present.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

  • Current South Carolina Registered Pharmacist license in good standing with the South Carolina State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Diploma (BS or Pharm.D) from an accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • Certified through APhA's national immunization program and maintains CPR training through an accredited organization.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Pharmacy Management Software and Pharmacy Point of Sale Software.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Record (EHR) Software.
