About the role

This Pharmacist role is based in a dispensing pharmacy that supports long-term care facilities and runs on a single weekday shift from 5:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with no regular weekend work.

Responsibilities

  • Execute day-to-day operations in the pharmacy to meet workflow requirements, production quotas, and deadlines.
  • Ensure full compliance with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with all DEA policies and procedures, adhering to whichever regulatory standard is stricter.
  • Ensure compliance with all third-party payer contract rules and regulations that govern pharmacy operations.
  • Supervise pharmacy production staff to ensure accurate order entry, efficient workflow, secure pharmacy areas, and adherence to delivery schedules.
  • Review all new and refill prescriptions for completeness and accuracy, and verify the content and accuracy of all drug packaging and labeling.
  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of all sterile IV drug products and solutions to required standards.
  • Afford assistance with proper ordering, handling, receiving, documentation, and storage of controlled substances, including maintaining a perpetual inventory for Schedule II drugs.
  • Provide coverage during scheduled on-call rotations, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by management.
  • Ensure the workflow dashboard is cleared daily to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Follow all applicable government regulations, including HIPAA, to protect patient privacy and confidential information.
  • Comply with departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code.
  • Provide timely, candid, and constructive feedback to pharmacy staff and support their professional development and career growth.
  • Help develop and maintain an appropriate talent pool within the pharmacy team to meet operational needs.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, collaboration, communication, decision making, discretion, performance management, problem solving, reliability, teamwork, and technical capacity in daily work.
  • Perform all duties accurately and efficiently when dispensing prescription medications.
  • Carry out other related responsibilities and tasks as assigned, recognizing that duties may change over time.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Current license to practice pharmacy in good standing.
  • Proficiency in clinical interpretation of drug-drug, drug-disease, drug-food interactions, and allergies.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with well-developed verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to dispense prescription medications accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for on-call coverage.
  • Effective multitasking skills in a high-volume pharmacy environment.
  • Technical capacity to work with standard pharmacy and office systems and equipment.
  • Reliability and strong attention to detail in all aspects of pharmacy practice.
  • Capability to supervise and guide pharmacy production staff in daily operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree is a valuable additional qualification.
  • Pharmacy technician certification or experience working with pharmacy technicians is beneficial.
  • Experience in long-term care pharmacy or similar settings is an advantage.
  • Experience preparing or supervising sterile IV drug products and solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address complex medication and workflow issues.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork skills in multidisciplinary healthcare environments.
  • Comfort working with dashboards and workflow management tools to track and complete daily tasks.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily within a long-term care facility and a dispensing pharmacy environment. The role uses standard office and pharmacy equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, rolling carts, fax machines, and related technology. A significant portion of work is performed in the long-term care facility, where noise levels may be loud at times. Pharmacists may sit or stand for seven to ten hours per day and are occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, walk, or crawl intermittently. The role may require lifting and moving up to 25 pounds and working extended hours when operational needs arise. The work environment emphasizes adherence to safety policies, attendance standards, and a professional dress code, and is structured to support accurate, compliant, and patient-focused pharmacy services without travel requirements.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $60.00/hr.
